Week beginning 28th April Summer Term

Playgroup open morning and Life cycles.

We started the summer term with our well attended open morning where we invited prospective families to join us for a morning session, to meet the staff and really see what we get up to at Community playgroup. It was lovely to meet all of the families and watch as they saw our setting for the first time, watching children use the space and lead their own play and exploration is always so rewarding.

The next day we welcomed back our existing children and a couple of new children joining us for the very first time as we began the summer term together. We had lots of exciting activities planned for the children to enjoy and explore and we started it off thinking about new life and life cycles. We looked at life cycles of lots of minibeasts and animals from butterflies to frogs and of course ducklings as we are all excitedly awaiting the arrival of our duck eggs as we join in a small scale hatching program.

In a nod to the London marathon this year’s Easter sponsored challenge was 26 themed. The children collected sponsorship throughout the Easter Holiday and when we returned to the playhouse we all took part in a series of 26 themed challenges. not only did this raise funds for our preschool but it also helped develop the children’s skills. Some of our challenges included The 26 basket ball hoop challenge, The 26 bean bag throw, The 26 balance challenge, The 26 slide challenge, The 26 lap challenge and the 26 goals challenge to name a few. The children were amazing and really stuck at the challenges, often pushing themselves, which made them all so proud of their achievements and raised £441.00 which is fantastic.

We also enjoyed the lovely sunshine this week spending lots of time in our garden which had had a bit of a makeover during the Easter holidays. We were thrilled to have a new Easigrass surface laid which provides a lovely all weather area for the children and enhances their play and provides a safe surface for lots of more physical activities.

As usual we had great fun learning and exploring together this week, so remember to pop back next week as we continue our life cycle exploration.
