All things Harvest
This week we have been thinking about the amazing bounty of crops that are harvested at this time of year from large scale farming with huge machinery, to our own gardens, allotments and also small scale local businesses.
We made some delicious apple crumble in our cookery session, the children carefully cut the apples up perfecting their knife skills and then weighed and measured the ingredients for the crumble mix. Our weekly cookery sessions cover so many of the areas of learning and are great fun, the children love to show and share what they’ve made with their families. As part of our harvest celebration the staff and children all donated to our Harvest food collection for our local Foodbank. We had great fun delivering everything we’d collected walking through the village spotting buses, house numbers and signs and of course meeting the lovely Foodbank volunteers at the Baptist Chapel. On our way back we did some dinosaur spotting in a garden along the way and also spotted some ghost and pumpkin ornaments too
Our stories the week were also Harvest themed and were The Little Red Hen The Scarecrow’s Hat

People that help us
This week we have been thinking about people that help us, from firefighters, scientists and doctors to the police, postal service and coastguard. We’ve enjoyed lots of role play, which is great for our social and emotional skills and helps us to develop our language too! We also had a great day exploring Road safety We were so lucky to have Angela our very own lollipop lady come and visit us and tell us all about how to keep ourselves safe when crossing roads but also in cars and when out and about. She very kindly gifted each child a hi vis jacket and a reflective keyring to ensure that they were seen as the nights draw in. We had great fun creating traffic light fruit kebabs and playing the traffic light game too. Our book of the week was Emergency! By Margaret Mayo and Alex Ayliffe.

Spooky goings on at Community Playgroup
As this half term draws to a close many of our children are excitedly talking about pumpkin patch visits and special costumes they have for Halloween. So with this in mind this week there were some spooky goings on at the playhouse as we explored all things Halloween. We had so many activities involving pumpkins from playing paper plate pumpkin toss, hammering in golf tees to painting , washing and finally carving them. We explored spooky Oobleck, created some funny monsters and also made some paper plate spooks. We used our super scissor skills at the witches haircut tuff tray, carefully giving them all a lovely trim in time for Halloween Our cooking activity was sweet potato mini pizzas cut into pumpkins shapes which were absolutely delicious. Our stories this week were • There’s a Witch in your Book • We’re going on a Pumpkin Hunt
Wishing you all a Happy Half Term Holiday
