Autumn 2017 Newsletter 1

Newsletter 1, Autumn 2017

Welcome to our 2017 – 18 academic year. We are also delighted to welcome our new member of staff, Sarah Hughes, to our team – she will be looking after the new Butterfly group. The first part of the Autumn Term is all about settling into Playgroup routines after the summer and for our new children, getting used to being at Playgroup and possibly away from parents for the first time. We have started Library visits already and will start to visit the gym on Thursday morning once everyone is settled. Forest School and French lessons will begin after half term.

Family Bunting – As part of making all our children and you their families feel welcome and a part of the Playgroup community, we are going to make some family bunting to display in the main room and would like each child to bring a small photo of their family and any pets in so that we can add it to the bunting.

Wet Weather Bags – We have purchased some drawstring bags which we will be labelling and sending out to you for your child. Please put some outdoor shoes/ wellie boots and waterproofs in them that can be left at Playgroup. We will hang the bags on our rainbow hooks in the main room so that children can access their boots and waterproofs if the weather is wet or they want to play in the mud. The cost of the bags is covered by the Registration fee that you paid when your child joined Playgroup and you are welcome to keep it when your child leaves. This will also mean that the Forest School group will have their wet weather clothes here ready each Tuesday.

Playgroup AGM 10th October 2017 7pm – Thank you to everyone who came along to the meeting and to the parents who have joined the Committee. We have 5 members currently, which is the minimum legal requirement. If you would still like to join, please let Jacqui or Fiona know. If you don’t want to join the Committee, but would still like to help out, there are still plenty of ways to get involved, so please do let us know.

30 Hours Funded Childcare

The government are offering 30 hours free childcare (Early Years) to qualifying families from September 2017. To find out if you qualify for Spring 2018 (and to register if you do), please go to If you are interested in booking your child in for 30 hours or would like to use some of your entitlement with us please speak to Jacqui or email

Mobile Phones – A quick reminder that the use of mobile phones, camers or personal electronic devices of any sort is not allowed anywhere on the premises (including the front garden). This is for the safety and privacy of the children.

Toilets – If parents or carers would like to assist their child to use the toilet in the morning, please use the adult toilet in the reception area as other children may be using the children’s toilets. In order to safeguard all of our children and respect their privacy the only adults allowed in the children’s toilets are staff.

Wet weather/ water play –  The children have access to the garden and water play in all weather. We do have a limited supply of spare clothes at Playgroup, but we run out very quickly on wet days, so it really helps us if each child has their own change of clothes. Please label all your child’s belongings as this really helps staff.

French Lessons  Will be starting again on Thursday mornings from half -term. It is an informal half hour of songs, games and fun activities aimed at introducing the language and developing listening and concentration skills in the year before children start school. Places are limited so if you are interested for this year or next, please speak to Jacqui.

Uniform – Our blue Playgroup t-shirts and sweatshirts are available to purchase (£6 per t-shirt, £10 per sweatshirt) They come in the following generous sizes 1 – 2 (t-shirt only), 3-4 and 5-6. We usually have some in stock, please speak to Jacqui if you are interested.

Parent Rota –We welcome parents and carers to come in and help at one of their children’s sessions. We really appreciate the help and it is a nice way to understand your child’s experience at Playgroup and get to know their Key Person. Please look out for our Parent rota on the notice board if you would like to join us for a session. Parents can also join us at their child’s Forest School session, please speak to Jacqui or Fiona if you are interested.

Extra Sessions – We are happy to take one-off bookings for sessions where we have spaces. We charge for extra sessions at the same rates as our normal sessions and ask for payment in full when booking or on the day of the session. Please see Jacqui for details.
