November 2020

Week beginning 23/11/20

It’s beginning to look a lot like christmas!
This week we have been exploring the nativity story, we listened to the story and then had lots of fun trying on different costumes, there were lots of angels, shepherds, kings and of course Mary and Joseph.
 –
 –
The children also started making some christmas cards for their families. We decided that we would make some reindeers and Christmas trees using their finger prints, we all had a great time finger painting and creating lovely cards.
 –
 –
 –
The children enjoyed decorating the felt christmas tree with lots of different felt ornaments, peeling the velcro decorations off of the tree was great practice for our fine motor skills.
 –
We all enjoyed exploring a baking tuff tray, we spent a whole day scooping and pouring, whisking and sieving, there were lots of lovely conversations around what our favourite things to make and bake and also learning some new vocabulary centred on baking. The children have requested we do this again very soon.
 –
 –
Every area of learning can be covered with most activities this was demonstrated beautifully when one of our little 2 year olds realised you could make marks in the flour. Children explore activities in many different ways and it’s lovely to see children using activities to further their particular interests.
 –
Some of the children asked if they could make bracelets and necklaces, we gave them lots of different beads, buttons and alphabet beads and they made some beautiful jewelry.
 –
 –
 –
We received some lovely new paints this week and the children enjoyed lots of free painting, it’s amazing to see children create such wonderful paintings and share them with the group with such pride. Here is one of the masterpieces created this week.
 –
We were all very excited to see Victoria from Premier sports who took us on a jungle adventure with Mo! We became slithering snakes, tall giraffes and some very cheeky monkey’s! whilst exercising our bodies.
 –
Another busy week! ☺

Week beginning 16/11/20

This week we had lots of fun playing in the fallen leaves, we collected large piles of leaves, sweeping and raking them up and then had a great time transporting them around in wheel barrows…. we also had lots of fun throwing them in the air and watching them fall. This is a great activity to support the development of our gross motor muscle groups.

We all went on a camping trip! The children were very excited to find Community campsite set up at the playgroup today and enjoyed having campfires sitting on the mats and also picnics in the tent! This brought out some great stories of family camping trips the children have had and also we could talk about fire safety and how to keep safe.

We focussed on our mark making skills this week trying a variety of different ways to make marks. It’s lovely to hear the children talking about what they’ve drawn and explaining the marks they’ve made. Children often draw actions rather than objects so its really important we ask children to tell us about their picture rather than assume we know.

A picture of running around!

Me i’m inside this thing, it’s like swimming.

“Look i made a big longest road, it goes right the way over there, the cars and diggers can go on there.”

We added some more of our favourite stories to our story tree! can you spot your favourite story?

We had a great time measuring the area outside playgroup with string then when we got back into the playhouse we measured the string and did tally charts for every meter…..we found out that it measured 50 meters!
What a busy week we had!☺

Week beginning 09/11/20

This week we’ve been busy thinking about the homes that animals make and live in, we thought about where they might live. Some children thought the animals would live in a zoo or farm, others thought about what the individual animals’ homes might look like. Can you see some of the animals hiding in their homes?

We used all of our fine motor super skills to place the colourful beads into groves of our patterned logs….. it was super tricky and took lots of concentration.

We started thinking about measuring, we measured each other and used words like taller, bigger, smaller, shorter.
We also tried to build the tallest towers and longest train.

We enjoyed printing poppies and learning about why we wear poppies.

The children and staff will remember them.

Finally we spent lots of time making delicious cups of tea! We enjoyed pouring, stirring and scooping the water and tea into little cups, everyone loves a tea party!
What a busy week!

Week beginning 02/11/20

We had lots of fun making firework pictures this week, the children enjoyed watching the fireworks around the village and were excitedly talking about them, so we gave them lots of different materials and asked them to draw or paint what they had seen.

We all enjoyed a fantastic Start Sporty gym session in the garden, it’s really important that we all stay active and we had so much fun trying out all of the games and activities.

We became colour detectives trying to find the correct place on the colour wheel for all of the vehicles and animals….. to make it super tricky we used the tongs to move the things to the right segment of the wheel.

We also played lots of circle games this week, we had lots of fun singing and dancing and being active.

What a busy week!
