Number week

This week we had fun exploring numbers together. From using the magnetic wands to pick up and identify numbers to creating our biscuit numbers it was a very busy week. We predominately looked at numbers 1 to 5 and numbers of personal significance. The children created sticker and finger-paint numbers and also printed using number shapes. We also used the number blocks to help the children visually understand numeral to quantity. They had great fun creating their own number blocks pictures. We added keyboards, laptops, phones and phone directories to the role play area which the children absolutely loved, from doctors to offices it was lovely to watch the children incorporate this technology and number language to their play.

Why not come back next week where we join in child’s mental health week looking at the theme “This is my place” thinking about where we belong and creating an environment that we all feel secure, calm and safe.

Child’s Mental Health Week - This is my place

This week at Community Playgroup we spent time thinking about the ‘This is my place’ theme as part of child’s mental health week A week created to help children feel secure and valued, with lots of activities to build a sense of belonging, confidence and a time to think of ways to manage stress and big emotions. We started off looking at our lovely village and what and who makes up the place we call home. We created my home collages thinking about who makes up our families. We explored activities that help us to feel calm and happy using lots of sensory experiences and thought about how to express our emotions through talk and colour. We looked at things that make us happy and also created key rings to give to friends and family talking about who is special to us. And as our week drew to an end we explored Valentine’s Day, a special day to celebrate love, friendship, and kindness toward family, friends, and other special people. What a lovely way to close the half term.

We are all looking forward to returning after half term to begin our week of Construction and Engineering

Week beginning 23rd February 2026

Construction and Engineering

This week at community Playgroup we have been exploring the construction and engineering theme. We began the week creating paper pinwheels, mark making with vehicles and using hammers to create some lovely painted artwork, it was great fun banging the hammer onto the paint and watching the colours merge and mix. We also created homes for dinosaurs, used magnets to find the matching bolts and nuts in the sand and had a go at creating robots, bridges and flowers with Duplo. In our cookery sessions we made rock cakes and also mud puddings which was lots of chocolatey fun. We had all manner of junk modelling creations, the children really explored this theme with lots of amazing ideas and watching them think, plan and then create was great to see.

Our stories of the week were Dazzling Diggers, Terrific Trucks, Duck in the Truck. and Billy’s Bucket

It was a great week of fun and exploration together, why not come back next week where we start to explore Spring
