Week beginning 7th September 2026
All About Me.
It was lovely to be at the playhouse welcoming back our existing children and also those joining us for the very first time. As we settled back into playgroup life, reforming friendships and bonds and getting to know each other we explored the All About Me theme. We spent time thinking about what makes us unique, what we like and don’t like, who makes up our families and also what we can do.
There were lots of activities that helped to teach, develop and hone our skills all whilst having fun. We had creative activities that sparked artistic flair and also some of our old favourites like bathing the babies which brought out rich descriptive language and also a tea tray where we explored different herbal teas and thought about which one we thought smelt nicest.
Of course there was a sprinkling of familiar toys and cosy stories in our new reading arch to help children feel at home and settled. We also made the most of the dry weather spending lots of time in our garden.

Week beginning 14th September
Emotions, Feelings and Golden Rules
This week at Playgroup as we all continue to settle back in we have moved on from the all about me theme and are now focusing on Emotions, Feelings and Playgroup's Golden Rules We help children think about feelings by linking them to colours and using the colour monster stories.
The emotions and colours we focussed on this week were:
Happy = Yellow
Sad = Blue
Angry = Red
Calm = Green
We have also spent time talking about ways we can make ourselves feel better if we are feeling sad, anxious or angry. One of our activities was making breathing buddies (which looked a bit like jellyfish). They can help when a child is feeling angry or anxious. When the child gently blows through the cup to make the crepe paper strands move it helps them to focus and regulate their breathing, which in turn helps them to calm down.
We also looked at our golden rules. These simple rules help us all to learn to respect each other and look after our toys and resources. They are

Week beginning 21st September 2026
All things Autumn
This week at Playgroup we have begun exploring the sights, sounds and smells of Autumn, as the summer fades and we see the first signs of the changing season. We encouraged the children to really look at what they could see and find in an autumn treasure hunt with their families. Not only did this encourage the children to really look and think about the changes they could see it also helps them to be curious and explore. We had an enormous amount of autumnal treasure brought in and the children loved showing off what they’d found. Many of our activities this week focussed on our gross and fine motor skills and included scooping and pouring, manipulating tools like scissors and tweezers and also being creative with dough and autumn treasure.
Our STEM activities explored magnetic attraction and changes in state and viscosity using Ooblek. We also had a go at constructing with cups sticks and tubes and balancing conkers
